Laurel Wayne-Nixon

Co-Chair of the Board

Laurel is currently the Operations Manager at the BC Council for International Cooperation. She has been with the organization for almost 5 year in various different roles including research, policy, programming, operations and finance. She has spent a lot of time working on the SDGs including research, SDG youth programming, SDG public engagement and delegations. She did her Masters in International Environmental Studies at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (in Norway 😊) and her undergrad at UVic in Political Science and Environmental Studies. She spends most of her free time walking her dog Baker, baking/cooking, and doing some sort of DIY project.

Jessica Yamamoto

Co-Chair of the Board

Jess is a recent graduate from UBC Chemical and Biological Engineering where she championed sustainability as VP External of Engineers for a Sustainable World and Co-Founder of the UBC SDG Alliance as well as serving on multiple Advisory Councils for student wellbeing and mental health, sustainability and governance. Now she works for the Metro Vancouver Regional District as a Project Engineer in Solid Waste Services to help transition the region to zero waste and promote a circular economy through responsible consumption and production.

Asser Sigmund Ang

Treasurer of the Board

Asser is an undergraduate student at the University of Waterloo in the Environment and Business program. He had done work related to the SDGs during his time with Impact Alliance as a volunteer where he facilitated its certification program to educate participants on environmental, climate, and social issues. Asser helped out with planning events including independently organizing one for the Greenhouse Gas Accounting. Other than work and volunteer, you might also see Asser watching Drag Race, working out, spending time with loved ones, and checking out new food spots/coffee shops in the neighbourhood!

Amanda Hendrie

Board Member - Programming

Amanda recently graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University with an undergraduate degree in Public Policy Studies and a certificate in Nonprofit Leadership. Her work in the sustainability space is through her contribution as a communication professional as she worked at Atlantic Council for International Cooperation as a Communications Associate for her internship. Shortly after, started at ReImagine17 as their Communications Coordinator to eventually lead their communications as their Communications Officer. She gets excited discussing accessibility, effective policy-making, and economic systems relating to prosperity. You can find her exploring her creative outlets of dancing, designing, painting and daydreaming new ideas.

Ceileigh McAllister

Board Member - Leadership

Ceileigh is the Youth Network Coordinator at SDSN Canada and a current undergraduate in the School of Environment, Resources, and Sustainability at the University of Waterloo. She is passionate about degrowth, social and ecological wellbeing, and the SDGs! When she’s not working, you can find her walking her dog Coco, cooking vegan food, or tending to her container garden.

Isabella Griffin

Board Member - Resource

Isabella is a recent graduate from the University of Ottawa’s Environmental Studies Program. She worked on multiple projects for campus sustainability and spent several terms working with the federal government on species at risk and wastewater management. Currently Isabella is working with LabsCanada in their IM/IT division to bring green and high quality tech to laboratories across the country. When she’s not working you can find Isabella training or teaching BJJ, reading, or trying out a new vegan recipe.
